I know I've mentioned in posts past, that I was preparing to start school. Well, all the preparation is over, and I've started! This past Monday was my first day. Man oh man .. it is definitely going to take some getting used to, but I know I can do it!
For those of you (if there are any of you) that knew me as a kid, you probably remember how hard it was for me while I was in school. Not because I wasn't capable, it was simply because I didn't want to do it. I'm not sure why I didn't want to do it, because I know now and I knew then that I could without any problems, I just didn't want to. It was too much work, and I was far too lazy.
I can't tell you the countless times my poor mother had to literally drag me out of bed to get me up for school. And that wasn't even half the battle. If I did go to school, staying at school was a different thing all together. I only ever ditched (in the literal sense of the word) once. Honestly only one time did I leave campus with some friends ... and the ENTIRE time I was worried. I just knew that that would be the ONE single time in my whole life that my mother would show up at school to get me early for some reason (which almost never happened). It didn't happen, but I didn't enjoy myself either way.
I much preferred to "ditch" school by faking an illness. I'm sure people in my school thought I must have had a terminal illness as much as I was 'sick'. Then I got to the point, that I'd missed so much school I had to have a doctors note every time I was absent. So you figure I was absent minimum at least one day a week. Every time I missed school, I HAD to go to the doctor to get the doctors note. I don't know how my mother survived financially, at $20 a visit, each week. (Sorry for that mom!!!) Thank GOD she's not requiring me to pay back my debt, God knows I wouldn't be able to afford to.
And here I am now. It seems light years away from the person I was then. I'm not going to school because I have to, I'm going because I WANT to. Which, I still can't believe sometimes. And, the kicker is this. I'm planning on going into the Nursing program. I want to be a Labor and Delivery nurse (when I grow up) and I'm super excited about accomplishing that. But back to the kicker. In order for me to be accepted into the program, I have to complete a slew of prerequisite. Here's the kicker for real this time, promise. I have to have a 4.0 GPA (in regard to my prerequisite classes) to be considered for the program.
No pressure at all for me (.. right!) I know, without a doubt, that I'm capable of doing that. I was told by every single teacher that I'd ever had through out my school career, that I was capable of being the top student in the class. I just have to apply myself.
So, raise your glass (if you have one) and toast to me!! I know I've not accomplished my goal, but there's a BIG HUGE yet. I know I WILL accomplish my goal, and I can't wait!!!
Until Next Time ...
